Details of the event/activity

The webinar I attended online titled was “CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS: How To Avoid Phishing And Scamming”. They held it on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 1 PM (GMT-8) with 3 hours span. DICT Mindanao Cluster organized the webinar 1 with resource speaker Mr. Alwell Mulsid, an Incident Response Lead in CERT-PH of Cybersecurity Bureau -DICT. Also, He is currently taking a Master of Technology Management–UP, a Certified Incident Handler in digital forensics and technical investigation on cyber-attacks/cybercrimes and Founder/President of Philippines Cyber Units. He has been working for 17 years in I.T. Industry and 4 years in Cyber Security. He is also an alumnus of FEU Tech.

Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (teachings)

I learned many things during this webinar about cybersecurity. As a full stack developer, I should always consider security of data. As the master speaker said, cyberattacks come in many forms, such as phishing, that comes with a malicious email that has an urgent mood. Phishing does not choose its victim it attacks everyone. Another is the online scam, especially in E-Wallet and E-Bank accounts, some will try to use social engineering to gain some of your personal data so that they can have a way to access your bank accounts, so we should be wary for emails that you are not expecting to receive.

As a user of technology, I need to understand these things in order to prevent it from happening to us and avoid unfortunately events like this or worst, losing your money online. I learned that to protect ourselves from these, we should practice updating our systems including our passwords, software, security updates; avoid sharing of personal devices and mindful about websites with pop-up messages because of its widely used in drive-by download attack

Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)

This webinar is very helpful to me as developer and a normal user. The idea I gathered here will practice in my daily activities and in professional ethics. Also, this is a starting point for me too, to learn more about it and I could use it to help other people who are not aware of this or victim of these cyberattacks.

Positive feedback (on the event organization)

Thanks to the organizer and speaker that I have now learned a new idea that I could use in the feature. Also, the speaker was also very comprehensive when answering Q and A’s, which is commendable even the questions are tough.

Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future activities.

My only suggestion is that I hope to see DICT-Mindanao will conduct more of webinar about web/banking security technologies and other approach to increase the security of user data.
