BEHIND THE DATA: CHART.JS

Webinar Title: “BEHIND THE DATA: CHART.JS”

Details of the event/activity

The webinar we organized online was titled “BEHIND THE DATA: CHART.JS”, the topic is about the basic usage of Chart.JS. It was held on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at 2 PM (GMT-8). The webinar was organized by our Team “Code Phantoms” together with resource speaker yours truly and my student colleague Mr. Lorenzo Mora. Both of us are currently 4rth Year Computer Science students at Gordon College.

Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

Chart.js is a free open-source JavaScript library for data visualization, which supports 8 chart types: bar, line, area, pie, bubble, radar, polar, and scatter. The webinar has 2 parts, the basic introduction, and the hands-on coding. In the first part, we discussed the background of chart.js and the chart components. Moving to the second part, as we follow the documentation provided by the library, we demonstrate how to integrate chart.js to our plain HTML page. Next is, we explain line by line how the chart.js works as well as the properties it requires to render the chart from the array of data with bar, scatter plot, and pie chart. We also add different properties, give them tips that the library works on different frontend frameworks too so that they will find this library easy to use and very helpful especially for data visualization in various management systems. And the last parting topic we discussed is about different libraries they can use for data visualizations. In this webinar, I have known in this part that there was the on-the-spot question we should entertain and answer because some of them suggest changing the properties and how it’s going to look. I learned a lot especially at interacting with our participants for being the resource speaker.

Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)

The event was very helpful to me as a student for being a resource speaker, I know this would improve my personality how I am going to present myself better next time to the crowd because I’m a shy type of person.

Positive feedback (on the event organization)

The participants were very curious about the library that they tend to suggest change/add this value/properties and what changes it will render to the chart, I commend the overall organization of the event.

Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future activities.

The webinar was a success for both our team and us speakers. Since this is the last organization event, there will be no more future activities.
